Acting Chairman of the Supreme Economic Committee, Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Hashim Ismail Ali, met on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Central Bank in the capital, Sana'a, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
The economic file and efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people resulting from the aggression and blockade were discussed during the meeting.
In the meeting, The Acting Chairman of the Economic Committee stressed that addressing the economic situation is the main entry point for any political solution, and that the approaches and solutions to be based on the rights of the Yemeni people and not to achieve political gains for any party.
He emphasized the need for the United Nations assessment of the economic situation in Yemen to be fair and just, in order to contribute to finding appropriate solutions that achieve the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviate their eight-year-old suffering.
The Acting Chairman of the Economic Committee warned of the repercussions of the recent escalation of the aggression countries and their mercenaries.
He touched on the decision to prevent the circulation of counterfeit currency, and that it came to protect the purchasing power of citizens, as well as the decision to prevent the plundering of national wealth, which was taken to protect and preserve the people's capabilities in accordance with the constitution and the law.
He pointed out that the demands of the national leadership, represented by the Supreme Political Council and the National Salvation Government, do not include any political goals or gains, but rather adopt the just and fair demands of the Yemeni people, including the payment of salaries of state employees, pensions of retirees, social security allowances, ending the unjust siege, and opening Sana’a airport to citizens and tens of thousands of patients and students, as these demands are human rights that should not be put for bargaining.
The Acting Chairman of the Economic Committee expressed disappointment with the approval of the International Monetary Fund last November to grant withdrawal units to the mercenary government, amounting to 300 million dollars, considering that this is the entry of the United Nations into the line of economic escalation, as the fund is one of its institutions.
He added that the Fund's continuation in granting mercenaries withdrawal units would affect its relations with the Central Bank in Sana'a, because these amounts are a right of the people, and a result of previous contributions paid by Yemen, considering this bias by the Fund an explicit participation in plundering the rights of the Yemeni people and in financing the aggression and war on Yemen.
The Acting Chairman of the Economic Committee, Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, also touched on the file of the Safer Reservoir, noting that since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding last March, which is 18 months long, there has been no progress on the ground, and the United Nations did not provide any explanation for the reasons for the delay.
At the end of the meeting, Hashim Ismail reaffirmed readiness to work hard with the UN envoy to address the economic situation, foremost of which is the payment of salaries of the state employees, pensions and social security allocations, and ending the blockade, stressing the importance of translating any discussions into a tangible practical reality as soon as possible.
For his part, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen expressed his happiness with what he heard of constructive ideas, and the level of response he sensed during the discussions he held with the national side.
