Minister of Social Affairs, Pierre Bou Assi, criticized on Friday the lack of participation of the private sector, urging politicians to open the door for economic sectors to help the state achieve the sought development.
"When the state is thought to be the sole institution in society, society will deteriorate. The government is not the mere institution in society; it is rather one of many," he said, explaining that citizens, the state, and the private sector should form a triangle.
Bou Assi made these remarks during a luncheon hosted by Consul Joseph Habis at Le Maillon Restaurant, Ashrafieh.
The event was attended by diplomats representing the European Union, UK, Russia, Italy, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, Columbia, Mexico, Czech Republic, Uruguay, Cyprus, Argentina, Greece, Sri Lanka, Armenia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Oman, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Yemen; as well as a panel of politicians, journalists, and economic figures.
