Minister of Fisheries, Mohammad al-Zubairi inaugurated on Sunday al-Jabbana and al-Salif areas of Hodeida province two projects for designing and building artificial coral reefs and studying the life of shrimp fish in the Red Sea.
The two projects, which implemented by the Marine Science Research Authority, funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Agricultural and Fish Production Promotion Fund, in coordination with the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea, aim to create a marine environment that contributes to increasing and diversifying fish stocks in the Red Sea waters and maintaining the level of quantities of Shrimp in the Red Sea.
Minister al-Zubairi pointed out the importance of the two projects in preserving the stock and environmental diversity and increasing the fish production.
He stressed the need to conduct an integrated study on shrimp fish, especially with its low quantities, pointing out that there are major threats to the marine environment as a result of ship waste, in addition to the indiscriminate dredging of marine life by fishermen of a number of countries with the protection of the aggression countries.
The Minister of Fisheries pointed out the importance of conducting studies to restore control over the sea coast, which is a main source of livelihood for more than 1.5 million people from families of fishermen, marketers and workers in the fish sector.
In turn, director of Fisheries at the Public Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea Mohammed al-Selwi stressed the importance of the two projects in preserving fish stocks and rehabilitating degraded places in the marine environment, which would increase the income of fishermen and improve their livelihoods.
