It is a religious, legitimate and ethical duty to provide support for Palestinians through "official channels", Egypt's top religious body, Al-Azhar, underlined on Wednesday.

In a press release, the body called on Arab and Islamic governments to pursue an earnest and concerted stand against inhuman western support for Zionists to undermine the rights of innocent Palestinians.

Al-Azhar urged all Arab and Muslim nations to live up to their religious and historical responsibilities by dispatching immediate humanitarian and religious aid to the Palestinian people of Gaza.

The Egyptian religious institution, further, called for an international investigation into the war crimes committed by the Zionist entity against children, women and elders in the besieged and isolated Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Saturday launched an unprecedented attack against Israeli occupation forces and Jewish settlers, prompting heavy and deadly Israeli bombardments on the Gaza Strip.
