BRUSSELS-- The European Union Friday reiterated its call for a political solution in Yemen and for an urgent commitment from all parties to concentrate on the resumption of negotiations under the leadership of the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths.

"The European Union will stand with the UN Special Envoy in his efforts to resume a peace process," said Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, in a statement yesterday.

It noted that "Thursday was another horrific day for Yemen. An airstrike, which was aimed at military targets, hit a bus in a densely populated area of Sa'ada, leaving scores of dead and injured, mainly children."

"Earlier in the day, another ballistic missile targeting the Saudi port of Jizan left one Yemeni dead a and several injured," it said and added that "these tragic incidents remind the world, once again, that there is no military solution in a conflict where Yemeni people are paying the highest toll."
