PARIS, Thirty-seven former prime ministers and foreign ministers of Europe signed a petition to the European Union calling on them to reject the US plan for peace in the Middle East or what it called the "century deal" if it did not include a "two-state solution."
The signatories to the petition called on the EU to endorse and support a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict ahead of the publication of US President Donald H. Trump's plan, known as the "Century Deal".
The petition demanded that the "deal of the century" should not be supported if this principle and international law were not respected.
The signatories to the petition include former French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, and former former European Union foreign policy chief, Javier Solana.
"Unfortunately, the current US administration has abandoned the former US policy and has distanced itself from international legal norms, has so far acknowledged one-sided claims about Al-Quds "Jerusalem", showed a worrying indifference to the expansion of Israeli settlements, and halted UNRWA support and other programs that help Palestinians," the petition read.
