FM meets UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen

Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf Abdullah met on Thursday with the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.

During the meeting, the efforts and endeavours of the United Nations to extend the current armistice were reviewed with a view to creating appropriate conditions and environment to achieve a comprehensive political settlement and sustainable peace.

At the meeting, the Minister for Foreign Affairs confirmed that the position of the Supreme Political Council in Sana ‘a had no ambiguity.. “What Sana ‘a requests cannot be described or considered preconditions, they are purely humanitarian demands and they should not be disputed or negotiated if the other side is serious and sincere in ending the military aggression and lifting the comprehensive blockade to reach a sound and sustainable political settlement “.

The truce was indeed a real opportunity to build confidence between the parties and to complement peacebuilding procedures
and a good preparation for the real negotiations to lift the suffering of Yemeni citizens in all governorates that have suffered the consequences of the aggression.

At the same time, Minister Sharaf emphasized that the renewal of the armistice without taking into account the urgent humanitarian aspects and needs of the Yemeni citizen, meaning of this is to bring the country into a state of clinical death as a result of the other side’s attempts to dilute the armistice and create a state of no war and no peace rejected in whole and in official and popular detail.

The most basic rights of Yemeni citizens were part of the rights guaranteed by the divine laws and the Charter of the United Nations, human rights treaties and conventions consist in the monthly and permanent payment of salary by a public official, travel from Sana ‘a International Airport and other Yemeni airports without conditions and obstacles to civil and commercial aviation traffic, including opening new travel destinations, not threatening and obstructing foreign commercial airlines to arrive and depart from and to Sana ‘a International Airport.

One of the most basic rights of the Yemeni citizen was the fact that the other party did not continue to detain vessels loaded with petroleum derivatives and domestic gas to the port of Hodeida.

In turn, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen confirmed that the United Nations continued to use its good efforts to end the war and lift the whole blockade on Yemen and the entry of all parties into serious peace negotiations that meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
