SANAA, A Cathay Dragon aircraft was forced to land safely at Kaohsiung Airport, south of Taiwan, after taking off on a flight to Hong Kong after a "technical problem" occurred.

The flight "KA 451" from Kaohsiung to Hong Kong returned after taking off due to a technical malfunction in one of the aircraft's engines, the French news agency Agence France-Presse reported, adding that it was an Airbus A330.

The Apple Daily reported officials from the Taiwan Civil Aviation Administration that the engine of the right plane had emitted smoke as it took off and that a number of residents of the area said they heard the sound of an explosion from the plane.
