The French government has emphasized the necessity of ending the fighting in Syria and Yemen, and resuming peace in the Middle East.

Developments in both countries and the peace process were the focus of phone talks between French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault and Saudi counterpart Adel Al-Jubeir, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement in Paris on Wednesday.

Ayrault stressed the momentousness of having a speedy ceasefire to proceed with efforts to conclude a political solution in Yemen. He also pointed to the "dire need" to end fighting in Syria and resume dialogue among parties to the conflict, the ministry added.

In addition, the French chief diplomat reiterated Paris is intent to create "favorable conditions" to resume peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

He pointed out that realizing peace in the region requires promoting a way for the peace process, and the two-state solution.

Paris and Riyadh share views on Yemen and Syria; France supports the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen. Both believe a political transition in Syria must not include President Bashar Al-Assad.

Saudi Arabia backs the French initiative for a settlement of the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians, based on establishing and independent Palestinian state on the pre-June 1967 borders.
