NIAMEY, Italy will grant Niger 40 percent of its general aid to Africa, said an Italian minister, according to a European media source.
Italian minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano said that his country is willing to allocate more funds to Niger seeking to promote its economic potential amid Italian entrepreneurs.
Alfano, who is visiting Niamey and has held a meeting with President of this country Issoufou Mahamadou, led the opening of the first Italian embassy in Niger.
Alfano said that in the meeting with Mahamadou, they discussed the excellent cooperation and security ties between the two countries, as well as the willingness to improve them.
According to Alfano, 'Italy considers that security in Niger represents security for the Mediterranean and Italy. For this reason, we are ready to, while respecting the sovereignty of Niger, use all necessary means to strengthen the protection of the country and the region.'
