Health Minister meets new resident representative of UNICEF in Yemen

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, today, on Wednesday, discussed with the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Peter James Hawkin, aspects of partnership between the Ministry and the organization.
In the meeting, which was attended by the Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Al-Madwahi, and the former UNICEF representative in Yemen, Philippe Duamel, the Minister of Health welcomed the new representative of UNICEF in Yemen.
Al-Mutawakil affirmed keenness to provide facilities to the new UNICEF representative, in order to enable him to perform his duties, referring to the difficulties facing the health sector as a result of the aggression and siege.
Health Minister reviewed the needs of the health sector related to childhood, which UNICEF relies on to provide to ensure the protection of newborns and children from deadly and life-threatening diseases through the provision of incubators and medicines, pointing to the need for continuity of support for urgent needs and the expansion and operation of health centers and units.
For his part, the UNICEF Resident Representative affirmed the organization’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the Ministry of Health and support its efforts to expand services in hospitals, health centers and units.
While the former representative of UNICEF expressed gratitude for the leadership of the Ministry of Health in facilitating his work and the activities and programs of the organization during his tenure.
