Inauguration of Winter Wheat Harvest Season Begins in Hodeida

Hodeida: The local authority in Al-Hodeida province, in collaboration with the Dahi Agricultural Cooperative Association, inaugurated the winter wheat harvest season for the year 1446 AH. This initiative takes place under the oversight of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

According to Yemen News Agency, the inauguration was coordinated with the Tihama Development Authority, the Unit for Financing Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives, the Grain Corporation, the Agricultural Cooperative Union, and the Agricultural Services Corporation. The event covered several fields within the Mahal Zaqa area.

During the inauguration, Hodeidah’s deputy governor, Mutahar Al-Hadi, highlighted the significance of expanding wheat cultivation and other strategic food crops. He noted that this strategy aims to enhance efforts toward achieving self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on imports. The deputy governor also underscored the importance of leveraging successful agricultural experiences in Tihama and replicating them on a broader scale to ensure sustainable agricultural development.

Deputy Governor Ghaleb Hamza emphasized that increasing agricultural production, particularly wheat cultivation, is essential for achieving local food security. He mentioned that the local authority would continue to offer technical and advisory support to farmers in collaboration with relevant authorities to maintain the agricultural successes of previous seasons.

Major General Fadel Al-Dhyani, the commander of the northern axis and mobilization officer in charge of the northern square, remarked on the Ministry of Agriculture’s commitment to providing continuous support to expand grain and legume cultivation. He highlighted efforts to enhance local production through the provision of basic agricultural inputs and farmer assistance with training and guidance.

Engineer Humair Al-Yemeni, the ministry’s representative responsible for wheat cultivation in Tihama, confirmed the success of using improved seeds supplied by the ministry in Tihama, Sardoud farms, and Al-Dahi district. He noted that the ministry is closely monitoring wheat cultivation developments in these areas to ensure optimal results. Al-Yemeni also stressed the importance of adopting modern irrigation techniques to improve productivity and conserve water, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to supporting wheat farmers for sustainable production and food security in future seasons.
