FNA 07.01.2013 A court acquitted writer, activist and director of budget for the Supreme Judiciary , Ali Qasem Al-Saeedi, of apostasy charges. The court dismissed the prosecution’s case and ordered their documents to be preserved.
Charges came after Saeedi, on a facebook post, called for the Koran to be the only reference for Muslims, disregarding the teachings and sayings of the prophet.
In a press release, Saeedi’s son denounced the prosecution for resorting to facebook to gather evidence. Saeedi lost his job as a result of the charges.
Saeedi said the ruling restored his confidence in the fairness of the Yemeni judiciary.
