Kuwaiti FM meets Swedish counterpart

Kuwait Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met Monday his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billstrom, on the sidelines of the 27th session of the Joint Ministerial Council between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the EU in the Omani capital of Muscat.

Starting his speech, Billstrom renewed his country's condemnation of burning the Holy Quran in Sweden that offends religions, and figures of Muslim peoples.

He indicated that Sweden started considering means to guarantee curbing such racist acts and working on enacting a law to prevent these hostile practices made under the pretext of freedom of expression and opinion.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Salem described Billstrom's speech as a positive step maimed to curb crimes and practices of burning the Holy Quran.

He stressed the importance of not repeating such acts, which run counter to humanitarian and moral principles and values, adding that they also fuel hate and threaten directly international peace and harmony.

Additionally, the two ministers discussed the current developments in the region mainly the repercussions related to the ruling of Iraq's court on Khor Abdullah, and the latest events in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip.

They also focused on the deep-rooted ties between Kuwait and Sweden, and frameworks of enhancing and developing them on all levels.
