BEIRUT, Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati affirmed Sunday his government is carrying out diplomatic contacts internationally and in the Arab world as well as local meetings, to prevent Gaza war spillover to Lebanon.
The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) quoted Mikati as saying, "I understand the feeling of fear and anxiety that afflicts the Lebanese as a result of what is happening", stressing he will not hesitate to make every effort to protect Lebanon.
Mikati added that the meetings and preparations carried out by the government are to make a contingency plan to face what may result from the military escalation in the south, noting it's a precautionary step.
He reassured that Lebanon and others are continuing their efforts to restore the situation to normalcy and prevent escalation.
The measures taken at the Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport and some other airlines are also only out of precaution and related to risk management, stated Mikati, adding that these measures will be for a short period until the situation returns to normalcy.
He indicated that in times of crises, rumors and false news spread increasingly, that it's a framework of a psychological warfare against the Lebanese people to frustrate them, stressing that he's confident that Lebanese people will overcome the circumstances just like previous ones.
Mikati concluded by saying that he decided to "keep the Lebanese up to date" on what the government is doing to face the repercussions of the ongoing situation, and to make every effort to keep Lebanon safe from the military escalations on the south borders.
Since the start of "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation from Gaza Strip on the October 7, the southern Lebanese border has witnessed military tension from time to time, including launching missiles towards the occupied Palestinian territories, targeting military sites of the occupation army, and the latter's artillery shelling of Lebanese territories.
