JOHANNESBURG, Next year's South African Open golf tournament will boast one of the strongest contingents of local players in many years as most of the country's top players have committed themselves to restoring South Africa's dominance in the event which has been won by overseas players in four of the last five years.
The tournament will once again be hosted by the Glendower Golf Club near here. Some of the top local players who have confirmed their participatio are player host Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, Retief Goosen and George Coetzee. So far no big name from among overseas players has committed for the tournament.
Sunshine Tour Executive Director Selwyn Nathan said Monday that the local players would do theit best to win the tournament.
We are calling this one 'The boys are back in town' and our top players will do their best to win their local Open. We haven't got any other names but we are still working on it and hopefully we can get more guys.
The tournament takes place from Jan 11 to 14, 2018.
