The Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development, Dr. Hussein Maqbouli, met today, on Thursday, the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Yemen, Peter James Hawkin, and the former representative of the organization, Philippe Duamel, to bid farewell on the occasion of the end of his tenure in Yemen.
The meeting, in the presence of the Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Abdul-Raqeeb Al-Sharmani, the Deputy Minister of Water, Haneen Al-Duraib, and the Chairman of the Rural Water Projects Authority, Adel Saleh Bader, discussed aspects of cooperation and coordination in the services, water and sanitation sectors in the capital’s secretariat and the provinces.
He pointed out the need for UNICEF to continue supporting the water and sanitation institutions in the Municipality and the governorates and providing them with fuel, to continue providing water services to citizens and covering projects with solar energy to ensure their sustainability.
Maqbouli praised the role of the former representative of UNICEF, Philippe Duamel, and his contributions in supporting efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people in light of the continued aggression and siege, urging the new representative of the organization to be the best successor to the best predecessor and to continue the approach followed by his predecessor in supporting health, water, environment services and other development projects.
In turn, the Deputy Minister of Water praised the efforts of the former representative of UNICEF and his actual contribution to providing support to the water and environmental sanitation sectors, stressing keenness to strengthen aspects of partnership with UNICEF to support water and sanitation projects in the coming period.
