Meeting discusses difficulties facing importing medicine, providing medicine stocks

The Public Health and Population Minister, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel chaired meeting in Sana'a today, Sunday, discussed aspects related to improving medicine situation.

The meeting, which included the head of the Supreme Authority for Medicines, Dr. Ali Sharaf, and the president and members of the Federation of Importers of Medicines and Medical Supplies, discussed the difficulties facing medicine importers, especially with regard to registering imported items, and the importance of coordination between the Supreme Authority for Medicines and importers to provide medicine stocks and combat smuggled and counterfeit medicines.

At the meeting, Al-Mutawakel stressed the importance of the participation of medicine importers in supporting the ministry's efforts to provide medicine services to patients through safe and effective medicine and appropriate prices, especially in light of the conditions the country is going through as a result of the continued aggression and blockade.

He stressed keenness to facilitate all difficulties facing medicine importers, in order to ensure the availability of safe and effective medicine.

Al-Mutawakel called on medicine importers to move from importing to localizing imported items, reaffirming the ministry's endeavor to correct the situation in the pharmaceutical market and prevent the entry of smuggled and counterfeit medicines and monopolies.

For their part, the Chairman and members of the Federation of Medicines Importers praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health's leadership, its interest in overcoming the difficulties they face and working on developing the technical and administrative work in the Supreme Authority for Medicines, in a way that helps speed up and simplify routine procedures.
