Minister of Health discusses mechanism for importing medicines through Hodeida port

A meeting in Sana’a, chaired by the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, discussed on Sunday the mechanism for importing medicines and supplies through the port of Hodeida and the repercussions of the high prices of medicine.

At the meeting, which was attended by the head of the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, Dr. Ali Abbas, and which included the Federation of Medicines Importers, Minister Al-Mutawakel praised the efforts of drug importers and dealers in covering and providing medicines in the market despite the blockade and aggression.

He stressed that importing through the port of Hodeidah will facilitate direct import procedures with no detention and delay of the goods, in addition to reducing the high cost of the value of medicine due to the reduction of exorbitant transportation fees and customs fees from what it used to cost to import from the port of Aden.

He pointed out that this procedure will also enable the arrival of medicines with effectiveness, efficiency and the required standards, while maintaining the temperature of the medicine and not subjecting it to detention at points, as was the case in Aden, until it reaches the consumer.

The Minister of Health pointed out that the Customs Authority will be followed up and work to solve all problems with regard to examining the incoming goods.

For his part, the head of the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies, Dr. Abbas, indicated that the authority will work to facilitate the procedures for importing through the port of Hodeidah, address shipping companies and coordinate with other parties to expedite the reception of shipments arriving through the port.

While representatives of the Federation of Medicines Importers confirmed their readiness to import through the port of Hodeidah, expressing their hope that the Supreme Authority for Medicines would coordinate with shipping companies; Because importing through Hodeidah is a requirement for all merchants.

They demanded the leadership of the Ministry of Health to resolve the problems related to drug import companies with the Customs Authority, to speed up the examination process, and not to detain them for long periods.
