Winners of the Green Factory Award, which aims to encourage environmentally responsible business practices and lay the groundwork for the country's transition to a green economy, were announced on Thursday. The winners of the award, which was launched by the Jordan Chamber of Industry's Energy and Environmental Sustainability Unit, in cooperation with the theGerman Agency for International Cooperation's (GIZ) Green Action in Enterprises project, are the Fine Company for the manufacture of sanitary paper, Siniora for Food Industries and Giant for Chemical Industries. The three companies will be allocated 24,000 euros for the purpose of improving their opportunities. Deputizing for Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Minister of Environment Muawiya Radaydah patronized the closing ceremony of the green factory award, saying that this competition is in line with the government's economic policies adopted in partnership with the private sector with the aim of shifting to clean energy in manufacturing and production processes to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impacts. He added that the award has revealed the growing awareness of the Jordanian industrial sector and the importance of its participation in the transition towards a green economy, pointing out that the competition, in which 39 local factories participated, was launched about five months ago in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Industry and the Ministries of Industry, Trade and Supply and environment. Jordan, he indicated, supports the transition toward a green economy through a number of plans and strategies based on the Economic Modernization Vision, which is a ten-year roadmap for the economic advancement of the Kingdom that includes a mixture of initiatives aimed at qualifying business owners in elements of sustainability such as green manufacturing practices and trade, energy efficiency, reduction of production costs and recycling.
