Nakba ‘unending’ tragedy for Palestinian people: RCJA

Monday marks the 75th anniversary of Nakba (Catastrophe) of the Palestinian people, a key case of brutal ethnic cleansing, which saw forcible displacement of about 750,000 Palestinians from their cities and towns, who today live in 58 refugee camps, and their current number now stands at 7 million, according to UNRWA statistics.

In a statement to "Petra" on Sunday, Secretary-General of Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA), Abdullah Kanaan, said Zionist gangs took over 774 Palestinian villages and cities during Nakba, 531 of which were completely destroyed, and their people suffered 70 massacres, the last was the Gaza carnage a few days ago.

Back then, he said about 176 Jewish settlements and 186 outposts were established on the entire territory of the occupied Palestinian West Bank in 1967, which bore Hebrew names with mythical biblical and Talmudic overtones, aimed to erasing Palestinian Arab historical identity, and spread a false Zionist narrative as an alternative to Palestinian history.

RCJA, he noted, affirms that the world and its legitimate organizations today should assume a "moral and humanitarian" responsibility and address Nakba conditions on Palestinian people.

International will, with all its political, legal, human rights and media institutions, faces a "true" test to assess its seriousness, to stop policy of double standards and unjustified bias towards Israel, and seek immediately to demand Israel to comply international legitimacy resolutions, according to Kanaan.

Kanaan added that this effort should focus on achieving the two-state solution and establishing the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Based on Jordan's "firm and solid historic" role, he said RCJA affirms support for Palestinian people as its key policy.
