North Korea Prepares for Workers’ Party Anniversary Celebrations

Pyongyang:North Korea A series of events have been organized to mark the upcoming anniversary of the Workers' Party, creating a festive atmosphere in anticipation of the celebrations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea and the Socialist Women's Union of Korea hosted concerts on Thursday to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the Workers' Party, which will be observed on Saturday. These events are part of the broader festivities planned for the occasion.

China's involvement in the celebrations was noted as Ambassador Wang Yajun presented a flower basket to North Korea's ruling party on behalf of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. In addition, a separate flower basket from the Chinese Embassy in Pyongyang was delivered, accompanied by those from other foreign missions, including Vietnam, Iran, and Cuba.

The U.S.-based Radio Free Asia reported potential preparations for a celebratory event at Mirim Airport in Pyongyang, based on satellite images from Wednesday. Military personnel and vehicles have been observed at three sites, although the scale is smaller than in previous military parade preparations.

A South Korean government official confirmed sightings of personnel and equipment but advised caution in concluding whether a military parade will occur. North Korea traditionally marks anniversaries ending in zero or five with large-scale events, such as military parades, gymnastics displays, and weapons exhibitions. Last year, a significant military parade was held, showcasing the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile.
