PM discusses with new representative of UNICEF cooperation priorities for coming period

The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, received today, on Saturday, the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Peter James Hawkin.

The meeting, which was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Security and Defense Affairs, Lieutenant General Jalal Al-Ruwaishan and the Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for the International Relations Sector, Yahya Al-Hadi, discussed the organization’s plans and projects in Yemen for the coming period and ways to strengthen partnership with relevant government agencies, especially the ministries of health, education, water and environment.

Bin Habtoor welcomed the UN official, hoping that he would continue the good efforts made by his predecessor, Philippe Duamel, in strengthening UNICEF’s activity and its important humanitarian interventions in a number of vital sectors.

He pointed out that the government, represented by the ministries and concerned and relevant authorities, is keen to provide the factors that assist UNICEF in implementing its projects and solving problems that may hinder its vital activity.

The Prime Minister affirmed that ending the aggression and siege and achieving a just peace is enough to end these challenges, which are growing year after year, pointing to the importance of strengthening the positive activity of UNICEF during the coming period, in a way that contributes to reducing the suffering of the Yemeni people.

While the new representative of UNICEF affirmed that he will do everything in his power to strengthen partnership relations with the Salvation Government through the relevant authorities in a way that reduces the suffering of the Yemeni citizen. He indicated that the organization will work to mobilize more funds to implement the necessary support for Yemen.

Hawkin pointed to the regional and international developments, especially the Russian-Ukrainian war, which cast a negative shadow on the level of humanitarian aid to Yemen in its great ordeal.
