SANAA, Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor received on Tuesday the UN World Food Program (WFP)regional director for the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and East Europe Muhannad Hadi, and his accompanying delegation, who currently are visiting Yemen.
The discussed the progress of the program in Yemen and its humanitarian interventions aimed at alleviating the great suffering of millions of Yemenis and the effective response to the looming famine due to the tragedy of the era which was made and fueled by the aggression and the siege and the economic war on the Yemen by the US-saudi coalition for the fifth year in a row.
The meeting discussed ways to consolidate the partnership between the National Salvation government and the WFP towards the vast majority of the Yemeni people, who have been driven by the current human tragedy to the brink of starvation.
The meeting discussed joint cooperation on the dynamic mechanism to ensure more streamlined procedures, smooth flow of WFP assistance and direct access to the target group to serve the program's orientation to start paying cash support to them.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the Regional Director and his visit to Yemen, pointing to the humanitarian assistance provided by the program to the Yemeni people, which alleviates the suffering of millions of Yemenis.
He pointed to the keenness of the Government to develop mechanisms of joint work with the program and continue its approach to overcome any difficulties that may impede the functioning of its activities ..
He stressed that a large part of the tragedy experienced by the Yemeni people is because of the US-saudi aggression and siege.
The UN official pointed to the priority addressed to the human suffering of the Yemeni people by his institution and its activities at the regional level.
He referred to the importance of joint action and mutual thinking in the most dynamic way to deliver food aid to the target smoothly.
The official referred to the vision of the program to develop the existing efforts made among the program and the ministries and relevant parties to ensure the flow and entry of aid and access to the beneficiaries.
The meeting concluded with the need for the competent authorities to discuss the vision of the WFP collectively from various aspects and to provide the Prime Minister with what will be reached in order to serve the joint efforts towards reducing the suffering of the beneficiaries due to the repercussions of the current exceptional situation.
