PM receives head of international office of MSF

The Prime Minister, Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, received on Wednesday in Sana'a, the head of the international office of Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Christos Christo, and his accompanying delegation visiting the Republic of Yemen.

The meeting, which was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Security and Defense Affairs, Lieutenant General Jalal Al-Ruwaishan, National Vision Mahmoud Al-Junaid, and Minister of Planning Abdulaziz Al-Kumaim, discussed the cooperation relations between the Salvation Government and Doctors Without Borders, and ways to consolidate and enhance them during the coming period, according to the priorities of humanitarian needs in the areas of its medical and humanitarian work.

The Prime Minister welcomed the head of the international office of the organization and his accompanying delegation on their visit to Yemen, pointing out that the visit will allow the head of the international organization to see directly the reality of the disastrous repercussions of the aggression and siege imposed on the Yemeni people eight years ago on various aspects of daily life.

He referred to the multifaceted challenges that the health sector suffers from, which is one of the sectors most affected by the aggression and the blockade, and its reflection on the status of its health and treatment facility and its cadres of doctors, health workers and technicians.. praising the various valuable health and humanitarian interventions of Doctors Without Borders and the efforts of its medical staff in serving patients Yemenis in most governorates.

Dr. Bin Habtoor stressed the importance of continuous strengthening of cooperation relations between the government, Doctors Without Borders and all humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen in facing challenges and growing humanitarian needs according to joint plans and making more efforts to achieve the desired goals.

In this regard, he pointed to the importance of giving more attention to motherhood and childhood issues, confronting acute malnutrition among children, and health care for pregnant mothers.

For his part, the head of Doctors Without Borders referred to the record of cooperation between the organization and Yemen, which dates back to the eighties of the last century, and its early role in standing with the Yemeni people in the medical field.

He explained that Doctors Without Borders focuses its activities on aspects of maternal and child care, in addition to qualifying and training medical staff, while providing some medical supplies.

He stated that during this visit he visited some areas and witnessed the condition of children suffering from malnutrition and pregnant women who travel long distances to obtain appropriate medical assistance.

Christo stated that one of the main reasons for his current visit is to see the situation closely and provide realistic information that shows the extent of suffering and the amount of needs of the Yemeni society, in addition to re-drawing the attention of the world, which has been preoccupied with international developments, foremost of which is the Russian-Ukrainian war, with the great tragedy experienced by the Yemeni people, and providing support requirements from by donor countries.

He stressed that concerted governmental and international efforts, according to joint mechanisms, will result in more positive work for the Yemeni citizen and alleviation of his suffering.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for the External Relations Sector, Yahya Al-Hadi, and the Assistant Director of the Prime Minister's Office for Humanitarian Affairs, Muhammad Al-Amiri, and on the part of the organization, the humanitarian representative of Doctors Without Borders in the Middle East and North Africa, Antoine Blair, and a number of heads of missions of Doctors Without Borders operating in Yemen.
