Pope urges peaceful resolution in Niger after coup

Pope Francis on Sunday called for a peaceful resolution in Niger, nearly a month after military ruler General Abdourahamane Tchiani ousted President Mohamed Bazoum in a coup to forcibly seize power.

The Pope said that he follows "with great concern" the developments in Niger, urging for cooler heads to prevail, a Vatican statement cited, emphasizing the need for "peace" in nations plagued by conflict and war.
