SANAA, President Mahdi al-Mashat met on Saturday the agricultural expert Ibrahim al-Madani.
The meeting discussed the situation of the agricultural sector in Yemen, the difficulties faced by this sector and how to reach food security in the future.
The President stressed the importance of the exploitation of the rainy season in the cultivation of wheat and corn and other local agricultural crops and encourage them.
"We have to focus on the local product and pay great attention to agriculture to get food and reduce imports from abroad and people have to go to grow various agricultural crops," he said.
The President urged the Government and traders to cooperate with farmers, to agricultural marketing and to take care of awareness and guidance, which would help reduce the use of harmful pesticides and seek the production of alternatives.
The agricultural expert pointed to the increase in local production and the return of citizens to the field of agriculture due to the siege and US- saudi aggression, expressing the hope that this year will be year of agricultural production and of strengthen the presence of local agricultural products in the markets.
Al-Madani pointed to several successful projects that have been launched, such as dairy farms and feed production, which will bear fruit in the coming months, noting the government's approach to livestock.
