Project launched to improve state of legal protection for children

National Yemen

A national legal team recently implemented a comprehensive program to prepare amendments concerned with creating suitable environments for children.

The program was formed with cooperation from UNICEF and the European Union, and has been adopted by the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and the Ministry of Legal Affairs, in partnership with other ministries and civil society organizations.

The program was inaugurated with a special workshop for Juvenile Police Officers, with further workshops to follow. The workshop saw participation from judges, prosecutors, lawyers, social workers, and individuals from civil society organizations, institutions and government agencies. In addition to workshops, the program will involve meetings, focus groups and fieldwork.

The program’s stated aim is to provide legislative protection for Yemeni children, and feedback from the workshops will be used to improve such conditions.
