Qatar Amir affirms efforts to open safe passages in Gaza

The Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad affirmed on Friday that his country was exerting all efforts to open safe passages for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip and prevent escalation in the region.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), this statement was made during Sheikh Tamim's reception of visiting US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at Lusail Palace in Doha.

The news agency indicated that both Sheikh Tamim and Blinken had discussed a variety of issues during their meeting namely the current alarming humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories.

Sheikh Tamim had reiterated his strong stance towards protecting civilians from the ongoing violence in the Middle East.

Blinken, who is visiting the region, had previously met with Jordanian King Abdullah II in Amman earlier with the latter warning the US official against attempts to forcibly moving Palestinians from their lands.

The King also warned against the collective punishment of the people in the Gaza Strip, saying that the lives of the innocent must be protected in accordance with international laws and norms.
