Sa’ada governor discusses service projects with UNOPS Program Director

Sa'ada governor Mhammed Awad and Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs Ibrahim al-Hamli discussed on Thursday with Director of Programs at United Nations Office for Project Services Khaldoun Saleh (UNOPS) the projects to be implemented in Sa'ada in partnership with the local authority in the service sectors.

In the meeting, Awad and al-Hamli reviewed with Saleh the projects implemented by the United Nations office during the past years, as well as the projects to be completed in the fields of water, sanitation and health including the installation of a solar energy system in al-Jumhuri General Hospital Authority and the lighting of Sa'ada city.

Governor Awad stressed the importance of starting the sewage project, valuing the UNOPS's efforts and cooperation with the local authority to rehabilitate the infrastructure destroyed by the aggression over the past eight years.

The Governor of Sa'ada expressed the hope that the United Nations office would fulfill previous promises and finance and speed up the completion of new projects.

Al-Hamli explained that the visit of UNOPS to Sa'ada came at the invitation of the Humanitarian Affairs Council to implement development and service projects aimed at alleviating the suffering of citizens as a result of the humanitarian crisis caused by the aggression and siege.

He pointed out that projects will be implemented in several sectors, most notably the sewage, lighting and electricity project and the restoration of al-Jumhuri hospital.

For his part, the Director of Programs at the UNOPS indicated that there are priorities in projects that must be implemented and started, as well as projects that will be implemented in various fields.

He stressed the necessity of identifying sewage sites to start work."We are continuing to cooperate with the local authority in providing services in various sectors," he said.
