SCMCHA Secretary-General meets UNICEF’s new resident representative in Yemen

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation (SCMCHA Secretary-General), Ibrahim Al-Hamli, met today, on Thursday, the new resident representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Yemen, Peter James Hawkin, and the former representative of the organization, Philippe Duamel to bid farewell on the occasion of the end of his tenure in Yemen.

The meeting, in the presence of the Head of the International Cooperation Department, Ali Al-Kahlani, discussed the interventions and projects implemented by the organization in all sectors, including health, education and water.

In the meeting, Al-Hamli affirmed keenness to enhance the level of partnership with UNICEF, which would facilitate the organization’s work, expressing the Council’s readiness to overcome difficulties and find solutions and remedies necessary to proceed with the implementation of humanitarian projects.

He pointed to the need to develop mechanisms of joint action between the Council and the organization in the humanitarian field, and to improve the quality of services in various sectors to contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens, as a result of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, caused by the aggression and the blockade.

Al-Hamli praised the role of the former representative of UNICEF, Philippe Duamel, and his contributions in supporting efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people in light of the continued aggression and siege.

SCMCHA Secretary-General expressed the hope that the new representative of the organization would be the best successor to the best predecessor, and to continue the approach followed by his predecessor in implementing projects and interventions in all sectors, pointing to the importance of moving to the stage of implementing sustainable development projects to contribute to alleviating human suffering and meeting the needs of the citizen according to the priorities of need.
