United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced today the appointment of Kenneth Gluck of the United States as his Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

He succeeds Diane Corner of the United Kingdom, who completed her assignment at the end of June 2017 and to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for her dedicated service and steadfast political engagement during the operation's start-up.

Mr. Gluck brings to the position several years of mediation and peacebuilding experience, including as Chief of Staff in the African Union-United Nations Joint Mediation Support Team (2008-2011), Principal Officer in the Office of the Special Adviser on Yemen (2013), Director and Deputy Head of the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office (2013-2015), and most recently as Director and Deputy to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (since 2015).

Before joining the United Nations, Mr. Gluck worked with several international non-governmental organizations providing humanitarian assistance in complex emergencies. Most notably, he was Director of Operations for Medecins Sans FrontiAres from 2001 to 2006 and its Head of Mission in the Russian Federation and northern Caucasus (1999-2001), in addition to serving the organization in Somalia (2006) and Sudan (2007-2008).

Mr. Gluck holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from Harvard University.

Born in 1962, he is married.
