Secretary-General Condemns Killing of International Committee of Red Cross Aid Worker in Yemen

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres:

The Secretary-General condemns the killing of an aid worker from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Saturday, 21 April, in Yemen's Taizz Governorate. The aid worker died following an attack by unknown armed assailants on an ICRC vehicle on the outskirts of Taizz.

The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the aid worker killed and expresses his solidarity with the President and staff of the ICRC. Those responsible for this killing must be apprehended and prosecuted.

The Secretary-General emphasizes that all parties to the conflict must protect aid workers who provide humanitarian assistance to the more than 22 million Yemeni people in need.
