The Security Council Friday strongly condemned the killing of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

The statement called for “an immediate, thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation.”

The council members reiterated that journalists should be protected as civilians, stressing that they continued to monitor the situation closely.
