Shura Council main committee condemns Zionist attack on Aleppo International Airport

The main committee of the Shura Council strongly condemned the Zionist attack on Aleppo International Airport in Syria, which caused it to go out of service and obstruct the arrival of humanitarian aid.

The committee, in its meeting Wednesday, chaired by Council President Muhammad Hussein al-Aidarous, considered this targeting an organized crime and a blatant assault against the besieged Syrian people, with the aim of preventing humanitarian aid from reaching the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the country recently.

It pointed out that the Zionist entity's efforts to prevent humanitarian aid from reaching the Syrian people is a testament to its brutality and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian laws and conventions.

The committee held the Security Council, the United Nations, the international community, and international and humanitarian organizations responsible for the legal and humanitarian actions towards these blatantly hostile and provocative actions, which are inconsistent with the Charter of the United Nations and all international norms and covenants.

It called on the international community and the free people of the world to condemn this crime, which threatens more criminal acts threatening peace and security in the region and the world, and to continue providing support and aid to the Syrian people affected by the earthquake by all available means.

In addition, the committee discussed, in its meeting, in the presence of the council's two deputies, Muhammad al-Durrah and Abdu al-Janadi, and the council's secretary-general, Ali Abdul-Mughni, the report of the Environment and Tourism Committee on the Yemeni environment and the effects of the aggression.

And listened to a presentation by the committee’s chairman, Khaled Mohamed, on the issues included in the report related to climate, population, water situation, agricultural lands, causes of soil degradation, the marine environment and the effects of aggression on it, in addition to the reality of environmental management of solid and liquid waste, and damage to natural reserves as a result of aggression.

The report referred to a number of problems and issues that led to the deterioration of the environmental situation in the country and the high rates of pollution in water, soil, marine environment and air pollution, and the dangers posed by waste, weapons and internationally prohibited bombs used by the aggression coalition in the bombing of various Yemeni governorates.

The report touched on the issue of the Safer ship and the possibility of an environmental and humanitarian catastrophe due to the absence of maintenance and its prolonged cessation of work, which may lead to oil leakage from it and the occurrence of pollution over a large area in the Red Sea, resulting in catastrophic economic and environmental damage.

The report concluded with a number of recommendations that emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional and legislative frameworks, environmental protection standards, expanding the sewage network in all cities, and searching for alternative sites for the waste dump in the capital, Sana'a.

The recommendations indicated the importance of supporting the laboratories of the General Authority for Water Resources, encouraging investment, adopting recycling projects in the public and private sectors, and forming a specialized committee to study the effects of radiation on citizens and soil as a result of the aggression’s use of internationally prohibited weapons.

The meeting was enriched with a number of discussions that emphasized the importance of the report receiving attention from the concerned authorities and working on its recommendations to reduce environmental pollution, and the need to form committees to ensure that aggression and its tools do not bury dangerous and toxic waste in the soil.

The Committee praised the efforts of the Environment and Tourism Committee in preparing the report and the information it contained, supported by numbers and statistics.

The Shura Council Committee approved the report of the Environment and Tourism Committee, absorbing the observations contained therein and referring it to the plenary session of the Council.
