Specific projects and more than a million beneficiaries in Al-Jumhuri Hospital Authority in Sana’a

Al-Jumhuri Teaching Hospital Authority in Amanat Al-Asimah has witnessed many achievements that will contribute to achieving a qualitative shift in the medical, therapeutic and diagnostic services provided to patients and alleviating their suffering despite the challenges and difficulties.

The achievements included a package of infrastructure projects, modernization and development of specialized centers and various departments, and the introduction of the latest therapeutic and diagnostic medical equipment to achieve safe and effective medical care for patients with outstanding quality.

Despite the aggression and blockade that deliberately destroyed the health sector infrastructure, the authority was able to face the challenges and worked to implement, complete and open development and expansion projects, enabling it to provide more than a million medical services to citizens during the past year.

The Authority recently witnessed the opening of several projects, which represent a qualitative tributary to the expansion and development of its services and the achievement of its vision of leadership in providing health services nationwide in accordance with international standards of quality and with a modern scientific and technical methodology.

The fruits of the efforts of the leadership of the Ministry of Health and the Republican Hospital Authority were evident in the inauguration by His Excellency Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat, Chairman of the Supreme Political Council, ten health projects at a cost of four billion and 27 million riyals, as the Motherhood and Childhood Center was opened, worth one billion and 210 million riyals, with funding from the Social Fund for Development, and the Magnetic Resonance Unit with a value of 825 million riyals, funded by the World Health Organization, a project to rehabilitate and restore the Authority worth 935 million riyals, funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNEPS), and the first and second phases of the major operations rehabilitation project, worth 390 million riyals, funded by the Iranian Embassy, the Ministry of Health, and Al-Jumhuri Hospital Authority.

The new general emergency center was opened at a value of 210 million riyals, funded by the local authority in the capital secretariat and the hospital authority, and the first phase of equipping the center for liver transplantation and gastrointestinal diseases, at a value of 200 million riyals, funded by the authority and the capital secretariat, as well as equipment for the general emergency center at an amount of 200 million riyals, funded by the Ministry of Health, the Authority and the World Health Organization.

The projects that were opened at the Authority included the medical automated, financial and administrative system at a value of 25 million riyals, the rehabilitation and restoration of the seventh private floor at a value of 20 million riyals, and the rehabilitation of the new corridor for clinical departments at a value of 12 million riyals, with self-financing from the Authority.

The head of the Republican Hospital Authority, Dr. Muhammad Jahaf, stressed the keenness to provide an integrated medical system to alleviate the suffering of citizens, especially the poor and needy, after the authority allocated a hospital to treat the poor and needy for free.

He explained that this year the authority will be rehabilitated and restored with funding from UNEPS at a cost of 953 million riyals, as the centers for dialysis, former obstetric emergency, acupuncture, physical therapy, the nursery department and other departments will be rehabilitated and restored, in addition to developing and operating a center for ophthalmology, retinal surgery and corneal transplantation.

Dr. Jahaf stated that the bed capacity of the major care department will be increased by providing it with an additional 50 beds, establishing a stem cell transplant center for the first phase, solar energy expansion projects, digging a water well, purchasing a peripheral catheterization device, and rehabilitating the dental laboratory.

He pointed out that the authority worked to provide many modern medical supplies and equipment, as surgical endoscopes were provided to the operating department units, including the latest endoscopy devices for the digestive system, bile ducts, nose, ear, throat, bones, general surgery, and urinary tract, and the latest ultrasound television device, two C-Arm devices, and a Digital radiography (DR) and modern laboratory equipment.

The head of the authority stated that the diagnostic PCR department and the oncology and histology department were opened, the cholangioscopy unit was opened, medical equipment was supplied to the general emergency center, and dental chairs were provided with complete accessories.

The Authority worked to rehabilitate the Burns and Cosmetic Center, open the Plastic and Reconstructive Department, maintain and operate the breast cancer early detection device, improve the Authority’s laboratories, open the Histology Department, and introduce many diagnostic devices.

According to a report issued by the Authority, more than one million medical services were provided to all patients who visited all departments and specialized centers during the past year 2022 AD.

223,981 cases benefited from the services of clinics and centers, the operations department 14,148 cases, the laboratory 500,174 cases, and diagnostic services 124,104 cases.

The report indicated that 18,983 cases benefited from inpatient and care services, 3,731 cases benefited from the dialysis center, 3,523 cases from burns and plastic surgery, 35,447 cases from the eye center, and 70,309 cases from the general emergency center.

He stated that the dental center received five thousand and 548 cases, and the physical therapy center received two thousand and 699.

According to the report, the authority was able to perform qualitative operations at the hands of senior consultant doctors and more than 13 specialized operations units, pointing out that during the past year, 14,174 major, medium, and minor operations were performed, with 306 facial operations performed, 1,135 nose, ear and throat operations.

In addition, three thousand and 322 operations were performed on women and obstetrics, 936 on the brain and nerves, 2,305 on the eye center, 1,841 on the bones and joints, 991, and 2,579 on the burn and general surgery center, and 759 on the urinary tract.
