The Yemeni Organization for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control clarified in a communiqué issued by it today, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), that nuts contain a number of useful nutrients, but they may be a source of food pollutants if they are exposed to poor storage conditions that contribute to the growth of mycotoxins. affect the health and safety of the consumer.
The communiqué indicated that mycotoxins, known as aflatoxins, are toxic compounds that are naturally produced by some types of fungi when they have suitable environmental conditions for the growth of mycotoxins, such as high temperature and high humidity, during the storage period.
Communiqué pointed out that these compounds are among the chemical pollutants that can affect human health and safety when ingested, and cause some serious diseases.
