The European Union Friday expressed fears that the violence in Israeli-occupied West Bank will continue unless there is a clear perspective for a political process to succeed.
"What we are witnessing in the West Bank, in the occupied Palestine .. it all just shows that the violence is just being repeated. There is a cycle of violence which has not stopped," EU lead spokesperson for foreign affairs Peter Stano told the European Commission's daily news conference today.
"Despite many calls by the EU, by the international community the violence continues and this will be happening unless there is a clear, credible perspective for a political process," he stressed.
Stano noted that the EU has a special representative for the Middle East Peace Process through whom the EU is conducting most of the outreach with the partners in the region.
"He is raising this issue with the partners from the Arab world from the Muslim countries because we have the same objective to stop the vicious cycle of violence and there is a credible perspective for a solution for the people both in the Palestinian and Israeli sides, he said.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell "is watching and following the situation very closely, as does the whole European Union, all the institutions, and member states," he said.
On Monday, Israeli occupation forces launched their biggest raid in Jenin in more than 20 years, including on its refugee camp, killing 12 Palestinians including five children, according to a statement by the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Two Palestinian youths have been killed after Israeli forces raided the occupied West Bank city of Nablus Friday.
More than 190 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli occupation forces since the start of this year, according to the Health Ministry.
