SANAA, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused the United States of blocking democracy in Iraq.
He called on the Iraqi government to remove US forces from its territory.
"The relations between Iraq and Iran go beyond the relations of two neighboring countries. The Iraqi government must do something to get the US military out of the country as soon as possible," he said during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.
"The Americans and their followers in the region reject Iraq's transition to true democracy and reject the current figures that support democracy in Iraq, because they consider this to be contrary to their personal interests, " he said.
Khamenei accused US forces of killing several Iraqi scientists after entering Iraq in 2003. "These forces killed those scientists because they know the importance of this scientific wealth inherent and present in those who killed them," he said.
