(Reuters) – Saudi Arabia’s powerful crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has emerged unbowed from the international outrage over the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi four years ago, as Western leaders who once tried to isolate him now seek his support. U.S. President Joe Biden, who has accused the prince of ordering Khashoggi’s murder and said Saudi Arabia should be made a pariah, will visit the oil-producing kingdom on Friday hoping for a respite from soaring global petroleum prices. He follows in the footsteps of European leaders who condemned the 2018 killing of Khashoggi by a Saudi hit sq…

DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran’s military ambitions are likely to figure high in President Joe Biden’s meetings with Israeli and Saudi leaders on a trip to the Middle East, as Tehran’s expanding missile arsenal bolsters its regional armed power. State TV displayed the new surface-to-surface “Kheibar Shekan” (Kheibar buster) missile, which refers to an ancient Jewish oasis called Kheibar in the Arabian Peninsula’s Hijaz …

The United States and Israel are seeking to lay the groundwork for a security alliance with Arab states that would connect air defence systems to combat Iranian drone and missile attacks in the Middle East, four sources familiar with the plan said. The idea, which would use Israeli technology, could gain momentum during President Joe Biden’s stops in Israel, the Palestinian territories and Saudi Arabia on a July 13-16 trip, said two of the sources who were briefed on the plans. As regional tensions have grown over Tehran’s disputed nuclear programme, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emira…

Why the Iran nuclear deal is at a critical juncture

The negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme are in disorder. Representatives of Iran, the permanent five members of the UN Security Council, and Germany are engaged in busy diplomacy, attempting to resurrect a deal to restrain Iran’s development of nuclear weapons. The discussions, however, are frequently halted or suspended by stunts and pretend slights. Under former US president Donald Trump, the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018, delivering a hefty blow to the future of the accord.
