A US military strike in central Yemen, killed Abdulghani Al-Rasas, an Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula leader, the Pentagon said.
The strike was carried out on Jan 8, on a remote area of Al-Bayda Governorate, spokesman, Peter Cook, said, in a statement.
The US "remains committed to eradicating the threats posed by Al-Qaeda, and denying them safe haven," he said.
"This operation is an example of the US government's and our allies' commitment, to the people and the government of Yemen, to detect, deter, disrupt and defeat violent extremists, who threaten progress in the region," he added.
It also aims to defeat those who "threaten to conduct terrorist attacks against innocent people in the region and around the world," he said.
