DUBAI, United Arab Emirate, The United Arab Emirates (UAE), said on Monday that, it offered 5.59 billion U.S. dollars in foreign assistance to Yemen, between April, 2015 and June, 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced.

The sum was used to help rebuild various sectors in the country, including vital infrastructure, and to restore health and social services.

Sixty-six percent of that figure went to development projects, while 34 percent to humanitarian relief.

The data also revealed that, much of the aid was channelled through international organisations.

The donations reached 22 Yemeni governorates, including al-Hodeidah, Taiz, Aden and Hadhramaut, and benefited 17.2 million Yemenis, 11.2 million children and 3.3 million women.

The funds also helped 11.4 million Yemenis gain access to health care, 16.3 million people receive food and 1.8 million boys and girls get education.

The funds also helped the rehabilitation of three airports and three seaports in Aden, al-Mukalla and Socotra.
