The United Arab Emirates will build a new Red Sea port in Sudan, forging closer ties with Khartoum’s military junta. The port is part of a $6 billion investment package, DAL group chairman Osama Daoud Abdellatif, a partner in the deal, told Reuters. The deal comes despite a massive crackdown by Sudan’s military on pro-democracy protesters with dozens of activists killed or raped by security forces.
