SANAA, The US State Department on Monday banned 16 Saudis from entering the United States for their "role" in the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, while President Donald Trump's administration continues to face harsh criticism over its handling of the case.
The US Department of State's statement listed the 16 individuals and said they were included on the list of those banned from entering the country under a law on foreign operations.
The Act states that "in cases where the Minister of Foreign Affairs has credible information that officials of foreign governments have been involved in major corruption or gross violations of human rights, such persons and their immediate family members are not permitted to enter the United States."
The law requires the Minister of Foreign Affairs to "identify such officials and their immediate family members publicly or in private."
The State Department has withdrawn US visas from about 20 Saudi officials and imposed financial sanctions on 17 others on the back of the case.
