The US said on Friday it carried out two strikes on Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula near Shabwah Governorate in central Yemen over the past week.
A total four Al-Qaeda operatives were killed in the strikes on July 1 and 4, according to a Pentagon press release.
The strikes "put consistent pressure on the terrorist network and prevents them from plotting and executing attacks against US persons, our homeland and our allies," added the statement.
The group remains a "significant threat to the region, the United States and beyond," said the Defence Department, while Al-Qaeda's presence in Yemen also has a "destabilizing effect" on that country.
