Visiting number of archaeological sites in Al-Jawf & Marib

The head of the General Authority for Antiquities, Manuscripts and Museums, Dr. Obbad bin Ali Al-Hayyal, visited a number of archaeological and historical sites in Al-Jawf and Marib provinces.

Al-Hayyal, along with Antiquities and Branches of the Authority Director, Adel Al-Washli, Sadiq Al-Batinah, and Acting Director of the Authority’s branch in Al-Jawf, Muhammad Rabie, visited the historic city of Baraqish in Majzar district in Marib, and the archaeological sites of Ma’in, Al-Suda’a, Al-Bayda, and Rusf Temple in Al-Jawf province.

They also, heard from those in charge of those sites an explanation of the damage to the archaeological components, columns and rhombic inscriptions, as a result of their targeting by the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression warplanes ,the looting and theft they were subjected to.

Al-Hayyal, indicated that the visit comes to see the damages caused to archaeological and historical sites, to work on everything that would preserve and protect them in cooperation with the concerned authorities and local communities.

He pointed to the importance of integrating official and popular efforts to protect the historical monuments of the particular country and to preserve collections, antiques and inscriptions from looting and tampering.

Al-Hayyal called on citizens to cooperate in preventing the excavation and vandalism of archaeological sites, and to stop the advance of new farms in the protection of these sites.
