Water Minister and Environment, Eng. Abdul Raqib Al-Sharmani, discussed with the Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen, Raf Wehbe, aspects of partnership and coordination to support efforts to provide water and sanitation services.
The meeting, which included the Director General of the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation in Dhamar, Taha al-Hindi, and the assistant coordinator of the Water and Population Department, Safaa al-Sanaani, assessed the level of partnership between the Ministry of Water and the ICRC delegation, and the activities and projects that were accomplished during the year 2022.
Al-Sharmani pointed out that the level of interventions of ICRC delegation has declined over the past years, in light of the urgent need to implement water and sanitation projects due to the increasing demand and needs as a result of the difficult and exceptional conditions the country is going through.
He reviewed a brief picture of the needs in the water and sanitation sectors, urgent issues and projects that require intervention by making use of available funds to address the difficulties in this aspect, stressing the readiness of Water Ministry to provide the necessary facilities and overcome any obstacles facing the Red Cross mission in carrying out its tasks and interventions in the field of water and sanitation.
For his part, Wehbe stressed the keenness to develop the level of partnership and coordination with the leadership of Water and Environment Ministry to implement the necessary interventions in the water and sanitation sectors.
He pointed out that the mission will focus within its upcoming plans and programs on the implementation of priority projects that will be raised by the Ministry and the transition to projects of a sustainable developmental nature, in a way that serves the Yemenis and alleviates their suffering.
