SANA’A, Water and Environment Minister Eng. Abdul Raqib al-Shurmani stressed on Tuesday the collective responsibility to conserve groundwater as a national treasure for all generations.
At an extended meeting of the main water basin committee, al-Shurmani pointed out the importance of activating integrated water resources management and promoting rationalization programs.
Yemen is classified globally as a water-poor country as a result of the unjust and indiscriminate depletion of water stocks and the widespread phenomenon of indiscriminate drilling of wells, he said.
Al-Shurmani stressed the ministry’s plan for 2021 includes several priorities, most notably amendments to some articles of the water law, which will enhance the vitality of measures to preserve water wealth and strengthen control measures against violators.
