SANAA, The Ministry of Water and Environment Monday signed an agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on the renewal and development of the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry and the Committee in the field of water and environmental sanitation.

The agreement, which was signed by Minister of Water and Environment Nabil Al-Wazeer and water and housing coordinator at the committee includes a support provided to Ministry in implementing a number of water projects and environmental sanitation in the Republic during the current year.

It was also agreed to continue the cholera response in the central prisons in the provinces well as complete the work in the water network of the central prison in Sanaa and distribute the hygiene materials to the prisoners to ensure that the epidemic is not spread.

The Minister of Water and Environment had discussed with the Water and Housing Coordinator of the Committee, the joint cooperation between the two sides and ways to expand the partnership in support of the activities and programs implemented by the Ministry.

The Minister commended the Red Cross's keenness to continue its efforts to support many projects and interventions at this stage that require concerted efforts by donors to support Yemen.

He pointed out that the ICRC is considered an organization that has not abandoned its humanitarian role in Yemen since the beginning of the US-saudi coalition's aggression.

For his part, the Coordinator of Water and Housing in the Red Cross praised the efforts of the Ministry in the development of the water system, stressing the keenness of the Committee to develop its relationship with the Ministry and provide the necessary support.
