Ministry of Water on Thursday signed two memorandums of understanding (MoU) with Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) and Tafila Technical University (TTU) to enhance cooperation with national research institutions and universities. The two memos, which were inked with support of the USAID-funded Water Governance Activity (WGA), aim to support and motivate postgraduate students in Jordanian universities, to be "entrepreneurial and achieve sustainable development goals," and spur universities' engagement in scientific projects and joint action on the water sector's priorities, according to a ministry statement. Minister of Water and Irrigation, Mohammad Najjar, who attended the signing ceremony, said the two memos came in the context of government plans within the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) and development of the public sector's performance, to boost cooperation among research centers, universities and the water sector in adopting "creative" ideas in managing and preserving water and strengthening scientific research efforts. Najjar also affirmed the ministry's readiness to cooperate with all universities, research institutions and partners, to meet challenges facing Jordan's water sector. This process, he noted, requires "integrated" management of water resources, develop infrastructure and launch new initiatives and projects that meet water needs, by developing long-term plans that ensure the "optimal" distribution of water base. The minister called on continuing these "pioneering" initiatives and ideas to find solutions to Jordan's water challenges and improve level of service provided to citizens, by integrating national scientific expertise to confront these hardships.
